Have you ever discovered something that makes your life so much easier you want to tell the world about it? That’s been my experience with packing cubes. These organizing accessories are now a must have item in my suitcase.
“Oh Packing Cubes How I Love Thee”
At a recent hotel stay with a friend I noticed she had packing cubes. Those little nylon zippered pouches that help you segregate your clothes so your underwear is not fraternizing with your t-shirts.
I watched as she removed them from her suitcase and put them in a drawer for easy access. I was intrigued and perhaps a bit envious. I decided I had to buy some for myself.
I wanted to do a little research before purchasing so I did what any self-respecting researcher does and turned to Amazon. I decided on the Hynes Eagle brand because of the shape, the price point and the good reviews. I’m very happy with my choice.
Shortly after I bought these packing marvels I had a chance to take them for a test drive at the Professional Organizers in Canada conference in Vancouver. I thought it was fitting! These little nylon organizers came out of my luggage and went into a drawer. There was no more rummaging through unruly piles of clothing or frustrating attempts to assemble outfits. Everything stayed organized and made my organizer’s heart sing.
Let’s take a look at how you can make these work for you.
Large Cube: Outfits
Medium Cube: Work out clothes, jammies and bathing suit
Small Cube: Undies and socks
Once you have the packing cubes all neatly organized, there is still lots of room to tuck shoes along the sides and for a cosmetic bag.
Throw in a bag for dirty laundry and you’re all set to keep your clothes organized when traveling. If you’re on the move a lot you’ll want to have a laundry bag that allows you to squeeze out the air to keep things compact.
Why was I surprised that packing cubes would make such a difference?
It shouldn’t have surprised me that packing cubes would make luggage organizing a breeze. I’m always telling my clients that it’s important to keep “like with like” and to use bins or containers to separate items. The same principal applies here.
If you decide to buy your own packing cubes I’d love to hear about it. If you have any other great packing ideas please feel free to share them in the comments section below.
With calm, cool thoughts,
