Please welcome in: Vicki! We’re so excited to have Vicki join our Room to Breathe team through our Victoria branch, Calm, Cool, & Uncluttered! Vicki will be working alongside Pam (our Fraser Valley Team Lead) as we settle into the community here, and leading the team in Victoria!
Vicki is passionate about finding the beauty in spaces and highlighting this by creating functional, organizational systems that work to serve you and the space. Alongside this passion, she equally loves hosting and is in the beginnings of a self-started luxury picnic business!
Read further below, for a bit more about our newest team member!
1) What do you love about organizing? How did you get started?
What I love about organizing is taking a space that looks unattractive and messy, and bringing it back into order. Turning chaos into beauty! I love finding a (pretty) home for things, so those things aren’t allowed to rule us and stress us.
I’m not exactly sure how I got started, but I would probably say it started back when I was raising my three boys. I learned early on that the best way for me to destress and keep myself mentally well was keeping our house tidy and organized (but of course it didn’t always stay that way!). A happy mom is a happy fam!
2) What’s your favourite space to organize? Where does your organizing light shine the brightest?
I wouldn’t say that I have a favourite space to organize, but I say that I love doing a space that would show the biggest transformation. So a place that looks like a bomb recently went off there I find the most fun to dig into!
Not to sound cheesy, but I would say my “organizing light’ shines the brightest in the darkest spaces! So for example, turning a yucky, old storage room/office into a bright, usable space that can actually function as an office, or whatever it’s supposed to function as. (I recently did this in a space like this at my current daycare job.) Putting the finishing touches (decor-wise) on a space/room, as well, is where I feel I can shine. I’ve always had a keen interest in decorating, so I believe a recently organized space/room can actually be made to look beautiful, not just tidy/organized.
3) What’s your best organizing tip/life hack?
Fav organizing hack (although I’m not sure if you would call it a hack) is labeling!! Somehow it feels to me like labeling reinforces that fact that an item(s) is in the right home!
4) What’s your favourite way to unwind? What do you do for self-care?
My fave way to unwind is heading to the beach/ocean with a good book, or just a coffee from Starbucks if the weather is not all that warm. Or re-watching my favourite British shows. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen Downton Abbey, or Poirot!!
Self-care for me is good ol’ retail therapy, naps on the weekend, and trying to get as much exercise as I can.
5) What are some of your favourite local businesses?
Some of my favourite local businesses are some lovely dining spots that my husband and I frequent, including an Italian restaurant, Il Terrazzo, Abkhazi Gardens (for afternoon tea), and The Ross Bay Pub. We also frequent two wonderful book stores, Bolen Books and Munro’s Books.
6) What is one thing on your bucket list?
I have a ton of things on my bucket list (most of which are just traveling), but probably at the top would be to visit Italy! And I would love to be able to converse in a useful manner while there!
7) What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
It’s been awhile since I’ve had time to read an entire book (I have about 19 on the go!), but I think the last one I actually finished was Magpie Murders. Lots of fun!
We’re thrilled to have Vicki join our team; linking arms to see our passions through!
